A proper wind can really ruin the aerodynamics of a car, a side wind can be just as bad as a headwind. And going by the flags at the 7:18 it was proper WINDY. To me, this is a bad data point, it's not the most efficient car but it's not that bad....

Even with all the caveats. I had no issue with your tests. They are an indication. I do take issue with your attitude. User anecdotes have the same values as your tests (aka anekdotes). All modern cars keep plenty of data. I have the cars consumption on the car and app, I have public charging and home charging. All info is logged and can be provided, but not on YT. As for the speed. With apps like Waze we often drive the GPS speed, not the speedo.

Yes a roadtrip is always something else wonderful - to take us with you on your trip. Since your are driving always in the Nordics - going south would be awesome, Mediterranean is always a good if not the best choice - You can show the different charging infrastructure and challenges for us, south of France, Spain, Italy.

Road conditions and temperatures affect range tremendously. Maybe you should be more explcit on that when commentingyour range tests. Twice, I ran almost out of juice because of wet roads.

I mean, geographically different places, different driving styles, different weather conditionts, etc. So I don't get why people don't understand that is really hard to everyone to have the same results... Keep testing the BEV with your metod Kris. So it's a reference in your daily trips, to know how EV behave. Greetings from Barcelona !!

Fuel economy is the same! Cars (ICE)rarely match their official consumption figures. Depends on how you drive! Most tests get different data. Less of an issue as refuelling takes a few minutes. Surely it’s the comparison that counts? Real world usage is important.

I have an EV 9 GT line. I notice you drive in ECO mode but with regen set at L3. Some seasoned EV drivers suggest setting regen to L0 or coasting to get best range. Apparently when regen is set higher lifting the foot off the accelerator means more aggressive regen which then requires additional energy to accelerate again to reach desired speed. A general note on charging. I sweat bricks on my first trip because the car and charger didn’t communicate after plugging in. Apparently, the car must be locked during the negotiation phase between car and charger. I have had no problems since. Also, some of charging cables are like wrestling with a huge anaconda snake; they are heavy and stiff. Applying pressure on the charger plug to ensure good connection helps. According to my KIA dealer locking the car during the negotiation and applying pressure to charger plugs in the direction of the car are steps required by the EU to reduce risks of sparks. Any comments on this appreciated.

Nice informative video and some good points. I think the biggest improvement of your test would be to measure actual battery capacity in stead of using nominal capacity and subtracting a fixed number for heat loss, and then calculating theoretical range. I think you should try to drive it as low as possible and either use the distance it takes, or simply measure how many KWhs you are able to get out of the battery and then divide that by the consumption at the right speed (like TeslaBjørn).

We’re probably at the stage where range tests are no longer particularly relevant as virtually every new car has adequate range and charging speeds for most people’s needs. What is probably more useful in 2024 are things like how efficient the car is, how usable the software is in the real world - do the driver assists actually work - like Kyle’s hogback test, is the navigation system’s range estimate accurate and helpful with charging stops - like your European trips, and I like Björn’s headlight, child seat and banana box tests - practical differentiators like that are useful.

Interesting you run the system/charger language in Norwegian vs say Bjorn who changes it to English saw the efficiency but no idea what the words above it said not being a Norwegian or anywhere near Scandinavian countries. Those Alpitronics hardware where you charged with the contactless payment option?

to be honest i perfer the way you do your test because is like a worst case scenario, because of 1) the low temperatures and 2) the high speed of the test.

This is the DUMBEST video i have seen on this topic for a long time. It utterly pains me even to comment it so that you get hits from the algorithm. You have an issue with not being able to move the mirrors on the go? Have you not driven a fckin car ever? Set your mirrors before you start, as it is even being taught in driving schools. I wonder what a backlash would there be if you moved the mirrors on the run by accident as it was on a button for you to do, then Volvo would be stupid again for allowing that. You also clearly have no idea how battery estimations work if this ever happened to you. You were probably speeding up and down, and guess what? The range calculator adjusted accordingly. I have driven this for 4 months now, and it only ever went off by 1% for me ever. And the Volume button? Really?? Maybe try reading your manual, and say "hey google, set volume to 65%" and VOILA it works. Do not do car reviews if you have 0 idea how the car works for gods sake
